SALVAGE on their latest release [ENG]

'SALVAGE' ON THEIR LATEST RELEASE

by: Jeric Emmanuel

Salvage is known to be one of the most influential and well regarded Hard Rock Bands from Sri Lanka, with their melodious riffs and sanguine lyrical themes they have a resolution to captivate their audiences through the showcase of pure originality! A band one would never be weary listening to!

And it was just a few days back when Salvage added a new tune to their singles collection. Firstly, we must acknowledge the fact that amidst the current dilemma throughout the globe Salvage decided to release this single as means to keep the Art of Hard Rock in Sri Lanka unfaded.

'HAMUWE DO API AWASANE' Salvage's first ever Sinhala track comprises of all components the Band's music is known for with an added tough of progressive elements included in it. Overall the song is very well composed both musically and lyrically. The melodies are astounding and hell when its sung in Sinhala there is a different but surely uplifting feel to it! An amazing job done by the boys at Salvage without a doubt!

Hence, we did not want to miss the chance to have a chat with Salvage on to their latest release. We managed to get in touch with Chrishantha or well known as CC the front man of the Band for an interview and this is what he had to say to us;

THE INTERVIEW

Q: Greetings CC! We welcome you to හෙළ Metal Breakdown . It is a privilege to have you here with us!

A: Hello! It is my pleasure , and thank you for the opportunity to talk about our music.

Q: So tell me about Hamu wei do api awasane, How did the song come to exist?

A : The song is about fate. And like all things that fate has planned to exist, so did it!

Q : Can you elaborate more on who composed the song?  Who wrote the lyrics? And where was the recording done?

A : We have a very fluid composition method. This song was completely composed by the members of Salvage. We wanted to do a song in our mother tongue for a long time, and this was our first attempt at it. I wrote the lyrics, and the song was recorded at ICreateForU studios in Wattala.

Q : What is the message or story Salvage portraits to their audience through this song?

A : Like I said earlier, the song is about fate. There are those who let our minds wonder and are ‘blowing in the wind’ Then there are people who think they have it all together. Solid as a rock. The song questions, though if anyone is really ever in charge, or are we playing out a story set in stone already.

Q : Salvage is known to be a band with killer English hard rock tunes! what motivated the band to produce a song in Sinhala?

A : Thank you! The killer Sinhala rock was always going to happen too. I think we were waiting for a good dynamic and sound. Personally, I also had to wait to be comfortable enough write and sing in Sinhalese. As you know, the vocal infliction and techniques between singing in the two languages are quite different, and one has to develop an almost tasteful way to deliver it.

Q : How did the overall recording procedure go?

A : This went quite smoothly! We took longer editing and adjusting song, for literally months before actually hitting the studio. I think that was the more strenuous process. And again, after the recording, with the usual bit of to and fro between the engineers and us, decided on the final!
I have to mention Shamal and Ashan of ICreateForU studios for always pushing us in this process to achieve the best production on this song

Q : What was the response you got from the listeners and fans?

A : Its quite a mixed bags of opinion. Our usual fans love the song, but are still adjusting to hearing Sinhala vocals on a salvage track, while those who are hearing us for the first time have been reacting pretty fantastically. There were a few statuses on social media that blew us a way. Only goes to show how universal Rock n Roll is.

Q :  What can we expect from Salvage in the near future?

A : Right now, due to the prevalent situation, I would say expect a lot of home videos and recordings. We are already recording some crowd favourites. Also keep an eye out for the official music video for “Hamuwe Do Api Awasane?”

Q : Finally, is there anyone you'd like to mention or anything you want to forward to your fans?

A : Please stay safe and act responsibly these days, so we could get past this shit storm fast!
